Salvaged Boats

If you're looking to save a few dollars on your next boat purchase then consider salvaged Boats. You can find them in many different boat yards and they are always going to be at a better price then your usual new or used boat.

What's the catch?
In the way we have salvaged cars, boats go through the same thing. They are not completely damaged, but they are in need of repair before they are fit for being out on the open water.

When buying a salvaged Boat you should know that you will be doing a lot of restoration work. If you are handy with fixing things, then this is a great option for your next boat.

Where can you find salvaged boats?
You can find them at most boat dealers, online boat salvage auctions and from previous owners looking to sell their boat. Often when people buy a new boat they will also trade in their salvaged boat, giving the boat dealership their own salvage to get rid of.

You can also find salvaged boats at various Salvage Boat Yards around the US. They are mostly in the coastal regions. Actually buying and selling salvage boats is a popular business worldwide.

Buyer Beware
Buying a salvaged boat can be a great project for a boater, or it can be a royal mess for someone who doesn't know what they are getting themselves into. Be sure to do all the math and research before spending your money. It would also be wise to get a second opinion on the condition of any boats before you purchase them. You should have an independent marine surveyor with you before you purchase the boat to go over all of the potential problems.

Go over the engine conditions, plus consider extra repairs you will certainly find while working on the ones you already know about. In the South East US there are also a lot of salvaged boats because of the damage that hurricanes do to boats that aren't properly tied down.

So what about Salvaged Boats
Buying a salvaged boat whether from a salvage boat yard or a dealer, you have to know what you are getting yourself into. But if you do your research and understand what you are getting into, then you have potential to have a great boat on your hands, and all at a price you can afford.
